Arthur B. Heurtley House (1902) 318 Forest Avenue Designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. (This is a private residence and does not offer tours.) |
This is one of Wright's truly great residences, with superb interior spaces! It was built in 1902 for banker Arthur Heurtley whose serious dedication to the visual and musical arts encoraged Wright's splendid design. This masterpiece of Wright's early Prairie Style encompasses the hallmarks of Prairie design, with a strong horizontal composure anchoring home to the land, emphasized by the rich Roman brick exterior and continuous bands of art glass windows, a sloping, sheltering hip roof with deeply projecting eaves, and a massive central fireplace at the heart of the home. View in winter light. |
