Lake Street near Harlem

This poor street has had a tough life, having been neglected for many years, "Malled" in the 1980's, and then reopened in the 1990's. Today, it is regaining its composure (and shoppers!) with an excellent selection of new stores, including Chernin's and Doc Martin's Shoes, Khyber Pass and Alonti restaurants, Pier One Import, The Gap and Kids Gap, and also the long-time regulars including Barbara's Books, Puree's Pizza, Oak Park Camera (now Helix Camera) and Maple Furriers.
